Day 5: Love God with All Your Mind and Strength

Today, Mary and I decided to try Day 5 in the morning.  So we started our devotional time … next thing you know Abby needed our attention, so we brought her in with us.  Then Malachi fought for our attention, so he joined us.  It became a FULL family devotional … loved it!!!

How can you clear your mind from every distraction?  I think its probably an impossible thing to do … at least totally, but we can eliminate distractions one-by-one!!!  I am easily distracted.  I think I have pre-diagnosed ADD.  In others words, they didn’t have a name for distracted kids when I was growing up.  But I still deal with it.  I typically have to spend my time with God EARLY in the morning – less distractions (phone doesn’t ring, no emails, family is asleep, etc).  This allows my mind to be fully engaged (at least most times).

Where does our strength come from?  It comes from our weakness!  That seems like an oxymoron.  John 15:5:  “Apart from me you can do nothing.”  Our only source of strength comes from God … he gives us the ability to accomplish.  He is our strength!  We can’t fully love God without acknowledging our need for Him.  We can’t pretend to be strong because we are too transparent … because strength is a “visible” characteristic.  Where does my strength come from?  God!!!  It’s that simple.  He empowers us to truly love Him.

VERSE:  “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things” (Philippians 4:8).

QUESTION:  What do you spend the most time thinking about?  Who/what do you usually depend on for your strength?
