Day 10: The Power of New

0310283671READING:  pages 95-100

I love new things … new glasses, new friends, new churches, new gadgets, new christians, new ideas, new hopes, new cars, new clothes!  There is something hopeful about new things.  Jesus introduces us to a new commandment.  That’s probably one new thing … new rules … that we may not always enjoy!  But this new command, if everyone obeyed, would cause the world to be a much better place!!!

What was that new commandment?  “… I give you a new command:  Love one another” (John 13:34).  Sounds good, but the verse does not stop there.  It goes on to tell us that we must love others the way he {Jesus} loves us.  That would be a pretty BIG new!  Most love falls short!  If you have ever been “in love” you will know that sometimes you feel like you are giving enough or you aren’t receiving enough love.  The only way to guarantee “true love” is when you are giving each other all the love you really have!

God’s love never falls short!  It meets every need!  Heals every hurt!  Provides every opportunity!  Sacrifices for your good!  That’s the kind of new love that Jesus wants us to have for one another … unconditional, unmatched love!!!

VERSE:  “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9).

QUESTION:  Is it hard for you to love people?  Why or why not?
