Day 11: Feelings Are Important

0310283671READING:  pages 101-108

I love the lyrics to the old Boston song, More Than a Feeling:  “So many people have come and gone/Their faces fade as the years go by/Yet I still recall as I wander on/As clear as the sun in the summer sky/Its more than a feeling.”  Life has to be more than a feeling!  Our feelings/emotions are gifts from God, but they were never meant to lead us.  Feelings/emotions should follow us, but never direct us.  Still feelings are important!

Have you ever made a decision based on a feeling?  I know that I have.  In fact, I have made many!  Some have ended up with positive results.  While others have had negative consequences!

“Jesus wept” (John 11:35).  Tears are a sign of emotion!  Jesus had a deep emotion when he came to the home of his friend Lazarus.  Lazarus was dead for 4 days.  The next thing Jesus did was huge.  He told Lazarus to come out of the grave … here’s the thing … he did.  This was absolutely crazy!  We see that as the largest part of the story, but too often we overlook the “humanness” of Jesus … he had a flood of “human” emotions like we have … Jesus was not led by his emotions, but he was in touch with them!

Hebrews 4:15 teaches us that Jesus is “touched” by our weaknesses.  He connects with us because of his emotions … and his greatest emotion/gift to us is HIS LOVE!!!

QUESTION:  Is there a feeling/emotion in your life that you have not dealt with?
