Spiritual Buoyancy

In Physics, if you take an object and place it in water gravity will attempt to force the object “downward” into the water, but buoyancy is the “upward” force caused by fluid pressure that makes it float.

Archimedes of Syracuse discovered this law of physics – Buoyancy.

All of us have to develop spiritual buoyancy.  There are a lot of things that will act like gravity and try to force us “down.”  But the strength of our spirituality will be in how we bounce back – and how we respond to the things life throws at us.

For us, as Christ followers, we understand that spiritual buoyancy or the “bounce back” can only really happen when the foundation of our lives is on Christ.

So let me give you a principle and it is this – “Emotions were never intended to lead us.”

In fact, emotional decisions usually are not the smartest and could have some pretty negative affects.  Okay, now with that, we have to understand that emotions are not wrong.  The key to Getting Fit: Emotionally is in how we express our emotions.

3 Ways to be spiritually buoyant:

1.  Respond in the opposite spirit. (Matt. 5:38-42)

2.  Laugh at yourself.  Often and repeatedly. (Ecc. 3:1, 4)

3. When you get knocked down, get up again. (2 Cor. 4:8-10)

When life tries to “push us down” God can give us the strength to “push back” and rise to the surface.
