“The confession of our failings is a thankless office.” (William Hazlett)
Most people don’t thank us for “confessing,” but we need to! Confessing our faults, failures and sins is vital to our spiritual growth.
There’s a great verse in James that really nails down why confession is so important … “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” (5:16).
Here’s the thing – no one likes to “confess.” It’s true. How bad would that make a movie? Person of interest arrested and confesses almost immediately. Confession is not the norm today!
To confess means to “come clean.” I mean we get that. Tell someone. Talk to someone! About what? Confess your faults, failures and sin to one another.
What do you need to confess? Find someone you can trust and unload.
But there is something powerful that happens when we confess our failures and sins. Okay … are you ready? Get this … it’s called HEALING!
