You see, you can be gifted, but if you don’t have a focus … your gifts will be all over the charts.

You can have opportunity, but if you aren’t focused … then you will take advantage of every opportunity and most likely miss the right ones.

You can have a lot of passion, but if you are not focused … your passion will be every single place you here a good story!!!

Let’s check out one verse today … Mark 1:35 … “Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.”  I mean, think about that … Jesus had to get away from the crowds … away from the distractions … and FOCUS.

Sometimes you’ve got to zoom out and look at the big picture.

That’s what the following college student did in writing this letter:

“Dear Mom and Dad,

I have so much to tell you. Because of the fire in my dorm set off by student riots, I experienced temporary lung damage and had to go to the hospital. While I was there, I fell in love with an orderly, and we have moved in together. I dropped out of school when I found out I was pregnant, and he got fired because of his drinking, so we’re going to move to Alaska, where we might get married after the birth of our baby.

Your loving daughter

PS: None of this really happened, but I did flunk my chemistry class and I wanted to keep it in perspective.”

Sometimes you need to zoom out and look at the big picture.  You need to put your focus on the right place.

So how do we zoom out?   We pray.  That’s what Jesus did … he went away to an isolated place to pray … a distraction free place … a place where He could focus every ounce of his strength.

Prayer is taking our eyes of our circumstances and situations and placing them in the hands of God.

Prayer is making the reconnection to Jesus.  And we can connect to Him all the time.

Prayer helps us restore balance … it gives us some spiritual equilibrium.

Prayer allows us to zoom out and focus on unleashing OUR full redemptive potential.

Wayne Calloway:  “Nothing focuses the mind better than the constant sight of a competitor who wants to wipe you off the map.”

Oh man, we have a spiritual competition taking place – on one side we have God who wants us to unleash our full redemptive potential – and on the other side we have the Devil, the enemy of our souls, wants to wipe us off the map — but prayer will strengthen our lives and help us reach God’s design for our lives.

Prayer gives us the focus we need!!!
