Many times leaders are faced with the task of making tough decisions.  It’s not easy, but it is required.  Being a leader is more than a position or title – it is the CDM (Chief Decision Maker).  It does not always make you liked or popular, but leaders are called to make decisions.

I had to make one of the toughest ministry decisions I ever had to make … yesterday I canceled The X Conference.  It was a tough decision – in fact, I wrestled with it for a few weeks!  But I know it was the right one.  We had only a handful of registrations – very far behind last year – so I made the decision.  Am I happy?  No.  But sometimes leaders must do things that don’t make them happy, but keep them holy (right).  We were poised to lose quite a bit of cash and I am called to “steward” God’s resources.

How to make tough decisions?

  1. Pray.  Always.
  2. Seek advice from those you trust.
  3. Pray again.
  4. Make the decision.
  5. Pray one more time.
  6. Share your decision.

Simple process.  But that is how I have learned to make decisions.
