True Contentment

1 Timothy 6.  “6 But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment. 7 For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. 8If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content.”

You see, I believe we can easily get stuck when we are not CONTENT – when we are always looking for bigger, better and more! We get stuck in the pursuit of a dream instead of on the provider of our needs.

Contentment – comes from the original word arkheo – which means self-sufficient.  Okay, when you first hear that you think – so contentment comes from working harder and longer towards contentment … but this passage is talking about proper self-sufficiency – which is really the “sense of being satisfied with God” – which means our lives and experiences are God-produced – internal because God is in us!  So our contentment comes from knowing that God is producing in our lives!

There is a difference with being comfortable and being content.  Comfort is when you feel everything is right … notice “feel.”  Contentment is when you know that God is in control! And I believe one of the biggest barriers to living a free life is the struggle between comfort and contentment!

Heraclitus: “The soul is dyed the color of its thoughts. Think only on those things that are in line with your principles and can bear the light of day. The content of your character is your choice. Day by day, what you do is who you become. Your integrity is your destiny.”

True contentment starts with becoming like Jesus … and the more you become like Jesus the more you recognize how wealthy you are!  Because true value is internal!

What areas of your life are you not content with?
