“I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one.”
Interesting line of a 26 verse prayer of Jesus. Jesus is praying for His followers. And He asks his Father to protect them when he leaves. To look out for them. To guard them. To keep them safe. Here’s the thing – you can only be kept safe from the evil one if you are in his zone. Why would the enemy mess with your life if you are absent of accomplishing anything for God – he will not waste his time.
You see, Jesus SENT OUT his disciples to do something significant. He did not want them to sit idly by and do nothing. Jesus desired for his followers to carry on his work. To reach people with his message of help, hope and healing.
I believe Jesus is still praying that prayer for you and I as we aggressively pursue the call of God in our lives. God did not promise to keep us in safe places, but he did promise safety in dangerous places. Jesus believes in you. Don’t sit on the sidelines. Get up. Get in the game. Start with praying and fasting. It will change your outlook.
What keeps us playing it safe?
- Lack of focus
More can be added, but knowing that Jesus is praying for our safety should give us some boldness to push the limits. To dream big. To pray hard. To believe that God can do anything.
- What keeps you attempting something for God?
- What is your biggest fear?
- If you could attempt anything what would you do?
- Can you remember a moment when you took a risk and God provided or protected you?
