One of our core values at Church Unleashed is radical generosity. We believe our church should be radically generous and we believe the people of our church should be radically generous!
Did you know God made you to GIVE? The word GIVE appears in the Bible 921 times – that’s almost as many times as FAITH, HOPE and LOVE combined. It is mentioned more than any other subject in the Bible : 2 times more than Heaven and Hell combined. 3 times more than love. 7 times more than prayer. 8 times more than belief. 17 of the 38 parables that Jesus spoke are all about giving. There are over 2,350 verses about money, greed, possessions, finances and God’s Way of handling them all found in the Bible.
Nestled in the Book of Philippians is a whole section devoted to the same subject. He tells the group of Christians: “… I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God” (Philippians 4:18-NIV). Paul tells them, now that you have given I have what I need to continue to do the ministry I am called to do.
And when you give to God’s work through the local church it becomes 3 things:
- A Fragrant offering
- An Acceptable Sacrifice
- Pleasing to God
Now, here is the promise attached to your giving, straight from God’s Word, “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Your generosity unlocks God’s generosity on your life!
Placed in Philippians 4’s discussion about Paul celebrating the giving of the church in Philippi he makes this statement, “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13). Paul gave everything he had. He knew what it was to face difficult times and his statement of faith is “I can do everything through Christ.”
“I can’t give” – no, you can do all things!
“I don’t have the finances to help” – no, you can do all things.
“I am not able to tithe” – no, you can do all things!
So, we want to challenge you to become more like Jesus – be generous with everything you have. Ask God today to give you the strength to become a reflection of Him. Live generous! Remember, your generosity unlocks God’s generosity on your life.
